Healthcare and Medical Industry

With growing and aging population, healthcare industry continues to be of great important to our society. Ways to deliver reliable care and ensure patient safety need to be efficient, especially when healthcare funding resources become limited due to increased service demand.

This ESRA Technical Committee on Healthcare and Medical industry focusses on modelling and analysis of healthcare reliability, safety and efficiency. We want to understand risk factors in healthcare, what causes medical errors to occur, and, most importantly, what effective barriers for controlling risk can be found. Advances in healthcare must be made to improve performance in a number of areas, including but not limited to: understanding of medical errors in hospital and primary care; clinical process variation analysis; the increased usage of computer technology and medical devices; evidence-based decision making; optimal resource allocation; and socio-technical and organisational factors. It provides a forum for industry, academia, clinicians and international societies to develop and promote advancements related to medical safety and reliability technology.
